In January 2015, Points formalized a company-wide Corporate Social Responsibility strategy, known as Points For Good. The goal of the initiative is to weave charitable commitment into the fabric of our culture and enable Points to contribute to the world around us in a meaningful way.
In August, a team of 20 exceptionally handy Pointsters headed to Brimley & Lawrence to donate a full day of ‘sweat equity’ at the site of a Habitat For Humanity home build. For those not familiar with Habitat For Humanity, they help low income families build and buy simple, decent quality and affordable homes though a no-interest mortgage with payments set at less than 30 percent of gross income.
Our team of Poinsters helped to build 15, two-storey town houses for families to soon call home. Pointsters spent the day doing a wide variety of tasks including sanding, caulking, painting and installing windows, furnaces and washing machines, among many other tasks.
What made this day extra special? Our Points team was there last October, at the very beginning of the project, to help with the foundation and framing of the homes. Ten months, hundreds of volunteers and thousands of nails later, the block of 15 homes are near completion. Family move-in dates start as early as this month! The timing couldn’t be more perfect with the back to school season in full swing.
