At Points, our dev teams choose their own names. The result: an always-amusing hodgepodge of puns, inside jokes, and pop culture references. Yele, this month’s featured Pointster, is a development engineer on the A-Team, or as she refers to it, the “best team ever.” In just over a year with Points, she’s also become known as one of our most active employees in the office, as the organizer of annual stand-up paddle-boarding excursions, and by teaching a yoga class for the company during May Wellness Month. Read on to get to know Yele, in her own words!
What’s your favorite thing about working at Points?
The people! Points has some of the most amazing people I have ever worked with: people who make a difference in your life, help you grow professionally, and are not just great co-workers but very good friends.
What are you working on right now?
My team is in charge of micro-services like Buy, Gift and Transfer. But most recently we have been working in an asynchronous reporting tool, which is a really interesting project with many different components, including a nice UI, and we are learning lots with it.
What’s one thing people probably don’t know about your job?
It is very rewarding when things go well…and very veeeeeery frustrating when they don’t!
What three unique things would we find on your desk right now?
A toy frog to clean my monitors, a python stuffy toy, and a dragon I got in a chocolate Easter egg.
Tell us something surprising about yourself.
I learned how to figure skate two years ago and was able to do pretty decent jumps!
What’s your favorite place to eat near the Toronto office?
Queen Mother Cafe! Love it there!
What one person from the past or present would you like to have dinner with, and why?
My sister. She passed away when I was 16 years old and I would love to see her again and tell her everything about my life that she has missed.
If you were going to be stranded on a desert island, what three movies would you bring?
Dirty Dancing, Pretty Woman, and American Beauty.
What’s your greatest weakness?
I can’t live without working out at all, from yoga to any other sports or workouts.
What makes Points different from other companies you’ve worked at?
Again I have to mention the people and their great energy!
And finally, what is one thing you can’t live without?
Sadly, my cellphone.
