Fatma is one of the longest serving employees here at Points, so for most people familiar with our business, she needs no introduction.  Also, due to her position as Customer Support Team lead, her presence extends far beyond the company building’s walls.  Even if you don’t speak to her directly, her calm nature emanates to each and every Customer Support Agent on her team.  While all of our employees have their own individual personalities, everyone tries to channel a little bit of Fatma in their daily lives.

What is your role at Points?

Customer Support Team lead

How long have your worked at Points?

12 years

What’s your favorite thing about working at Points?

I have a few: the culture, the people I work with, my job, and the perks. It’s a fun place to work. Never a dull moment.

What does a day in your life at Points look like for you?

Busy, interesting and I’m always on my feet. We can’t plan for the day what ever needs to be done, I’m ready.  My team is the voice of Points.com, so we are always smiling.

Are there any projects you’re working on right now that you can tell us about?

There’s always a project. Right now, the Support Manager is going on maternity leave soon, I’m interviewing for a replacement.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever done with loyalty points/miles and what’s the best tip you have for getting the most of points/miles?

I love to travel. So best thing for me is being able to accumulate enough miles to take a trip. One tip – I do a lot of surveys to earn miles. I just earned 1300 miles last weekend from AAdvantage by participating in one of their surveys. It took about 45 mins but it’s worth it.

What’s your favorite place to eat near the Toronto office?

Jack Astors on John street. I recommend the Bhudha salad. Also, buy 5 meals, the 6th one’s free!

What three unique things would we find on your desk right now?

1) Wine glass – even though I don’t drink wine.  2) Left over pastry from Starbucks. I never seem to finish eating. 3) A fashion magazine

Tell us something about yourself that would surprise people.

A lot of people seem to be surprised by how long I’ve worked at Points and still have the same passion and dedication. My passion was working for an airline. I’ve worked for Kenya Airways, TWA, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. That stopped once I joined Points.

What one person from the past or present would you like to have dinner with, and why?

I would have to say my dad. He’s my inspiration. I’m very proud of him. He always gives me the best advice, and has a great sense of humor. Always makes me smile. I don’t get to spend a lot of time with him so I would pick dinner with him any time 🙂

What is one thing you can’t live without?

Starbucks Coffee. I’m a sucker for their coffee. Not sure if it’s because of the actual coffee or the trend, but I think it mostly has to do with how they treat their customers. I always feel special there.

If you could eat or drink one thing endlessly without any negative consequences, what would it be?

Potatoes, especially french fries. I can have that for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in between.

What are your hobbies?

Traveling and watching sports.

What is the best trip you’ve ever taken?

Kenyan safari – as a Kenyan native, I didn’t appreciate that part of nature until I moved to Canada.

What’s your greatest weakness?

Brand names – I only shop brand name clothing, food, etc…, even though I know it’s mostly overpriced. The good thing is I always look for deals (on Ebay mostly).

Thanks to Fatma for participating on the Pointster of the week!
