Collage of wellness activities

At Points, we care a lot about our team, and that includes their health. That’s why we love May Wellness Month so much! Once again this May, our Social Committee ran activities to get the Points team thinking about their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. We worked up a sweat in boot camp and self-defence classes, and we learned some healthy eating tips at a seminar run by The Living Kitchen. We were even treated to a delicious demonstration of red-bean no-sugar brownies. Who knew healthy living could be so delicious?

For a little added fun, draw tickets were handed out to those who attended and organized events. Here are some ways Pointsters got moving around, eating well, and racking up those tickets!

Did someone say food?

The Social Committee started the month off strong with a May Wellness Breakfast Kickoff – a heart-happy feast of fruit and yogurt. The clean eating continued with Wednesday subsidized lunches catered from AAmazing Salad. We were certainly well fuelled for a month of healthy choices!

Biking our way to fitness… and smoothies!

Eating is just as important as exercise for a healthy lifestyle, and the amazing Bike Blender promotes both! What’s a Bike Blender? It’s a stationary bike with a blender attached to the back, activated by peddling the bike. Just pop in your ingredients, pedal to the metal, and voila! That’s one smooth(ie) ride!

Speaking of bikes, 17 Pointsters peddled their hearts out on May 11 on the Heart and Stroke Big Bike. Together, Points raised $2,840 for heart health research. Way to go everyone!

Pointsters Took the Lead!

The Social Committee wasn’t the only mastermind behind May Wellness Month. Everyone at Points was welcome to organize an event, and those who did put on some great activities: we hit the pavement and explored the sights of Toronto on Wednesday walks with Sue Work; we got our groove on with Chris Soltau’s shuffle/cutting-shapes dance class; and we found our Zen every Thursday in Yele Bonilla’s yoga classes.

Plank you, plank you very much!

We heard that planks are one of the best exercises you can do everyday. So, Pointsters were challenged to plank 20 seconds a day for two weeks, at the end of which they could test their strength in the Ultimate Plank-Off Challenge. Daniel Shapiro hosted the final event, and everyone put up a great effort. In the end, one strong Pointster planked for 7-minutes straight!

Thanks to everyone who participated, and congrats to all the prize winners! Though we are glad to be a little more health-savvy for the coming year, we can’t wait until May Wellness Month rolls around again for more healthy, active fun. Until then, we hope to keep up the good work and stay healthy!
