It’s no secret that booking a flight can help you rack up frequent flyer miles, and that you can cash in your accumulated miles for free flights. But did you know you can do the same thing with hotel stays? A number of airlines have started dishing out frequent flyer miles to travellers who book a hotel through their websites, or will allow you to book a hotel room and pay for it with your miles.
Get more flexibility from your frequent flyer miles by booking your next hotel stay with an airline that offers these additional benefits. Here are a few examples. Looking to earn more miles? Many airlines offer miles for hotel stays. Find out how #ThePointsmansClick To Tweet
Launched earlier this year, a new initiative from Hawaiian Airlines provides its loyalty program members with the flexibility to redeem their frequent flyer miles in a new way. Rather than saving them up for free flights, HawaiianMiles members now also have the option to use the miles they’ve got to book stays at more than 150,000 hotels around the world. For example, 7,500 HaiwaiianMiles can be redeemed for a $50 gift certificate to all Outrigger Resorts, OHANA Hotels and Resorts, The Kapalua Villas Maui and Embassy Suites-Waikiki Beach Walk properties in Hawaii. Just log into your account to get started.
Don’t have enough frequent flyer miles to book a free hotel stay just yet? No problem. You can always use a combination of cash and miles to cover the cost of your trip.
Have you ever dreamed of earning frequent flyer miles while you sleep? Here’s your chance. Members of the Delta SkyMiles program can earn loyalty miles by booking a stay with one of Delta’s dozens of hotel partners. For example, choosing to stay at a Hilton hotel can earn you one mile for every dollar you spend. At Hyatt hotels and resorts, the loyalty earnings are set at 500 miles per stay. Delta even offers limited-time earning opportunities for SkyMiles members who book hotel stays through their website. Earlier this fall, Delta dished out 1,000 bonus miles to loyalty program members who stayed two nights or more at participating Starwood hotels and resorts such as Westin and Sheraton.
When it comes to redeeming frequent flyer miles for hotel stays, Delta once again has you covered. Through the SkyMiles Marketplace, Diamond, Platinum, Gold and Silver Medallion members along with Delta SkyMiles credit cardholders from American Express can pay for a hotel stay using frequent flyer miles or a combination of cash and miles. You can also use the miles you’ve racked up to cover other travel costs, such as a car rental.
American Airlines AAdvantage
In the same way that Delta SkyMiles members can rack up frequent flyer miles while staying at their favorite hotel, members of the American Airlines AAdvantage program can boost their miles total by booking a stay with one of American Airlines’ hotel partners. Spending a night at La Quinta Inns & Suites within the U.S., Canada and Mexico can earn you 250 miles while booking your next hotel stay at a Marriott Hotel will reward you with two miles for every dollar you spend. Simply provide your AAdvantage number at check-in to start earning.
If you need just a few more airline miles to book your next rewards flight, consider trading in your hotel points for airline miles. AAdvantage members can convert the hotel points they’ve earned into airline miles and redeem them for award travel or cabin upgrades. For example, 2,500 Starpoints can be exchanged for 2,500 AAdvantage miles while 5,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points can be traded in for 2,000 AAdvantage miles. Be sure to visit the AAdvantage website for a complete list of participating hotel partners.
Miles & More
For international travellers, Miles & More, Europe’s largest frequent flyer program, gives members the ability to book hotels directly on their website. What’s more, you can pay for your hotel stay by redeeming your Miles & More award miles at more than 200,000 hotels and resorts around the globe. Or, if you’re looking to grow your account balance, you can earn Miles & More miles on your hotel booking (an average of 4,000 award miles per night!).
