Are you a frequent Tweeter, Instagrammer or Facebook poster? Beyond being up-to-date with friends, your time online could actually earn you more points and miles. Hotel and airline loyalty programs offer chances to earn rewards for engaging on your social media channels by sharing a photo, using a hashtag and even checking-in at destinations.

Here are three easy ways you can Instagram and Tweet your way to points, perks, or even an all-expenses-paid vacation.

Share your experience

Last year, Hawaiian Airlines encouraged its fans on Instagram and Twitter to share pictures from their latest tropical adventure using the hashtag “HAOnLocation.” The person with the best photo won a grand prize of 140,000 HawaiianMiles. That’s a retail value of more than $3,500!

Every few months, a new contest from a hotel or airline loyalty program seems to pop up. In May, for example, American Airlines awarded 35 winners with 350,000 miles each in exchange for a story about a milestone trip they had recently taken or were about to take. The best part is, everyone who filled out the contest form earned 350 miles while a tweet or Facebook post with the hashtags “MilesForMilestones” and “Promotion” brought in another 350 miles. Be on the lookout for these easy ways to earn miles and points by sharing your favorite travel stories.

Check in

Before laying down for quick nap in your hotel room or heading out to experience the sights and sounds of your vacation destination, take a few minutes to let the rest of the world know you’ve arrived. Connecting your Starwood Preferred Guest account with your Foursquare or Facebook account will give you the chance to earn bonus Starpoints simply for checking in at participating hotels and resorts. Not only will you be able to rack up a few extra Starpoints along the way, but you’ll also have a running log of all the places you’ve visited during trips.

Test your knowledge

Are you a trivia fan? You can earn miles and points even while sharpening up on your general knowledge. From matching tail fins with the correct airline to guessing the number of locations they serve, American Airlines offered loyalty program members a shot at earning up to 700 bonus miles for playing a series of nine different games and quizzes. Called the AAdvantage Passport Challenge, participants also had the option to collect 125 miles for following and sharing content on American Airlines’ social media channels.

These opportunities usually don’t last long, so be sure to follow your favorite loyalty programs on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Make it a regular part of your social media routine to check for fun promotions that grow your loyalty balances. After all, it only takes one hashtag to win that grand prize!
